Refunds & Cancellation
Last updated 21 September 2026 · Bookcairn is run independently from India · karankumar@gmail.com
Cancel any time in one click and keep Pro until the period you paid for ends. A first charge is refunded in full within 3 days, with nothing deducted. Renewals are not refunded, because you can cancel before they happen, but we always fix a billing mistake.
Cancelling
- Go to Account → Plan → Cancel subscription. No emails, no retention flow, no survey.
- Your plan stops renewing. You keep every paid feature until the end of the month or year you already paid for.
- After that you go back to the free plan. Nothing you logged is lost or locked: every book, card, rating, note and your public page stay exactly as they were, including anything above the free shelf limit, which stays readable and editable. Only the Pro themes and formats, the monthly card, the full year story, page views and page customisation switch off.
- We confirm the cancellation with the payment provider before we show it as cancelled, so what your account page says is what will actually happen.
Refunds
- First payment. Email karankumar@gmail.com within 3 days of your first charge and we refund it in full. No reason needed, and we do not deduct payment-processing fees or anything else. You get back exactly what you paid.
- Prefer to just stop paying? Cancelling takes one click and costs you nothing, and you keep Pro until the period ends. If you write to us we will usually suggest that first, because most people want the billing to stop rather than the money back.
- Renewals. Renewal charges are not refunded, because you can cancel at any time beforehand and we never send a surprise charge. If a renewal went through by mistake, for example right after you tried to cancel, or on an account you had stopped using, write within 7 days and we refund it.
- Our fault. If Pro features did not work for a meaningful part of a period and we could not fix it, we refund that part.
- Refunds go back to the original payment method and are issued by Dodo Payments, usually within 5 to 10 business days.
Why we do not deduct a fee
Bookcairn is a small independent project, and the payment provider's fee on a refunded charge is not returned to us. We still refund the full amount. Charging you for our cost of doing business would be a poor trade for both of us, and where the law gives you a statutory right to withdraw, a full refund is what that right requires anyway.
Consumers in the EU and UK
You have a legal right to withdraw from a purchase of digital content within 14 days. Because Pro features are available the moment checkout completes, you agree at checkout that access starts immediately and that this ends the withdrawal right for what has already been delivered. That is why our own refund window is shorter. We still offer a full refund within 3 days of a first charge, with nothing deducted, and if you believe your statutory right applies to your purchase, write to us and we will honour it.
Price changes and your code
The early reader price, $19.90 a year with code EARLYBIRD, stays at that rate for as long as your subscription runs without a break. On the monthly plan the first month is $2.99 and every month after that is $4.99; the intro covers one billing cycle only, and the ongoing price is shown to you before you pay. If we change the list price we will email you at least 30 days before it affects any renewal, and you can cancel before then. If you cancel and come back later, the price of the day applies.
Who charges you
Dodo Payments is the merchant of record. It is the seller named on your receipt, it collects any tax that applies in your country, and it issues refunds on our instruction. If you see a charge you do not recognise, write to us first and we will trace it rather than send you to your bank.
