Copyright & Takedowns
Last updated 21 September 2026 · Bookcairn is run independently from India · karankumar@gmail.com
Covers come from Open Library and are shown only to identify books. If you hold rights in a cover, a name, or any content on the site and want it removed, email us with the details below and we act within 5 business days.
How covers and book data are used
Book titles, author names, and cover images are fetched from Open Library, a project of the Internet Archive, and displayed to identify the book a reader is rating. Covers are not stored on our servers; the browser loads them from Open Library each time. Covers also appear inside the card and wrap images that readers export for personal sharing, in the same way a photo of a book on a shelf would.
We believe this identification use is fair and customary, and it matches how other reading platforms operate. We still respect the wishes of rights holders.
Requesting removal
If you are a rights holder, or authorised to act for one, and want a cover, a book listing, or user content removed, email karankumar@gmail.com with:
- the URL on Bookcairn of the material;
- a description of the copyrighted work or right you say is infringed;
- your name, organisation, and contact details;
- a statement that you believe in good faith the use is not authorised by the rights holder, its agent, or the law;
- a statement, under penalty of perjury where that applies, that the information is accurate and you are authorised to act;
- your physical or electronic signature.
We will remove or disable the material within 5 business days of a complete notice, tell the user who posted it (for user content), and keep a record of the notice.
Counter-notices
If your content was removed and you believe that was a mistake, reply to our notice with your contact details, the URL, a statement under penalty of perjury that you believe in good faith the removal was an error, and your consent to the jurisdiction of the courts in India (or your local courts if you are a consumer). We forward counter-notices to the original complainant and may restore the content after 10 business days unless they tell us they have filed a court action.
Repeat infringers
Accounts that repeatedly post infringing material are closed.
Trademarks
Bookcairn is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by any publisher, author, or retailer. Book titles and author names are the property of their owners and appear for identification only.
Open Library data
To correct a title, author, or cover at the source, edit the record on Open Library; corrections there flow through to Bookcairn.
